NYFW

Hi Friends!

I know, I know, it’s been a while. Trust me it’s hurt me more than it’s hurt you. It’s been a wild year since I last blogged but we’re back in action baby! I can’t wait to fill you guys in. I think how I want to do this, is to just jump in directly where I am currently and fill you in as I go. You know, like old friends that haven't seen each other in a while but can always pick back up. So jumping directly into my first NYFW experience and how amazing it really is.

As some of you may or may not know I work in the fashion industry and have spent this last year working and grriinnnddin' (insert Clipse song) to find my place in the industry. I've had the pleasure to work alongside my best friend and amazing creative/stylist Mecca James Williams. She has allowed me to work with her on a few of her projects as well as introducing me to some amazing people along the way. Initially, my only real plan was to assist her on the Chromat NYFW fashion show. If you guys don't know about this brand you're missing out! They are really revolutionizing size inclusivity as well as gender norms predominately in the swimwear industry but throughout the fashion industry.

I couldn't have asked for a better brand to work alongside as my first fashion show experience. This experience was just another realization that manifestation is real! I had been saying for so long that I wanted to experience working a fashion show and now look. I'm not really sure If posting videos is possible so I will just post my favorite looks from the show. Sorry guys, but trust me I have some beautiful backstage video moments that I would love for you guys to see but...it is what it is.

When I tell you guys that was the only fashion week job/activity I had on my agenda...that was it! lol Upon meeting another fashion guardian angel named Raziel. He has definitely been a blessing to me these past few months meeting him through a fashion job we both were working on. He blessed me with fashion show tickets he didn't have any interest going to or the time. I know this would be my chance to network and meet more people, and that's exactly what I did. Being able to attend those shows provided me to meet more people that were nice enough to give me their tickets to different shows and you know I took every opportunity if I could.

One thing about fashion week is that its almost impossible to attend every show. Though the majority of the shows are located at Spring Studios, others can be all over the city. This means you may have 30-40min to leave one show to trek it across the city to make it to the next. Chiiilllle it can feel like the amazing race. In total, I was able to attend about 7-8 shows that week with two epic events between.

We would be here forever if  I talked about each one so I'm just going to pick two or three and why I loved them whether that may be just for the fashion or the personal relevance. This post is a little overdue so if you guys follow me on my social you should know which shows I'm picking. ;)

Let's start with what I think was THE best show of NYFW. PYER MOSS. He did it for the culture, for black fashion, for black creatives all of it. He showed us that we can do anything we want out here! Kings Theater, an iconic theater in Brooklyn gave the brand alllll access to the theater for his show and epic after-party. The collection itself was giving me real, functional, luxury streetwear.

The color choice of fabrics which were light and fluid made this collection great for the everyday person during spring/summer. Just my personal opinion. What I also appreciated about his show was the diversity of black that was casted in each model. I'm talking shades, tones, hair texture, stature, all of it. It was just beautiful. A moment that you just had to be there for.

Next, we have Alice + Olivia, similar to Pyer Moss I appreciate the real access this brand gives to real people. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of high-end fashion houses but I will always be for the people as far as accessible fashion so we all can have the opportunity to slay okay! I'm not saying these brands aren't expensive, I'm just saying they have a little bit more obtainable price points. Moving on, what I love about this brand is the use of color! They love using bright and vibrant colors with the use of color blocking or mixing patterns and sequins with color, just ugh! It's just fun in an approachable manner, I don't find their pieces intimidating.

In all, that week was amazing and solidified for me why I love this industry and why I need /want to make my own personal mark. It was an inspiration to create more personal goals for next year as far as work and looks.

I have a question, what's on your fashion week bucket list if you have any? Top 3 must-see shows if you had the opportunity. I'll go first. Chanel, Giambattista Valli, and..... Jacquemus. That was hard.
